"Physical Distancing with Social Connectedness."

Are you looking for a little connection to add to your day or week? Berkeley Lab and Be Well at Work have a series of ongoing, drop-in groups on a variety of topics that are open to everyone. The Lab's Employee Resource Groups and Employee Activity Associations also host regular events that are open to all staff.

For a full list of events at the Lab, check out the LBL Events Calendar and IDEA Office Events Calendar or go the IDEA Office event page.

drop in Groups

We started our morning stretch breaks way back in April and they’re still going strong. Join us for a quick 10-minute session of easy stretches designed to get you out of your chair and bring a little movement to your morning.

The sessions are led by your fellow Berkeley Lab colleagues.

Daily Schedule: Mon-Fri, 9:30-9:40 am

Are you looking for ways to improve handling the stress of shelter in place? Have you found approaches that enhance your resilience around the challenges of working from home that you can share? Connect with fellow Berkeley Lab colleagues and join in on short facilitated discussions once every two weeks to share tips on being well throughout this challenging time. Hosted by the All Access ERG, the sessions will be roughly 30 minutes each, during the lunch hour every other Tuesday. Join us on Zoom!

Ongoing: Every two weeks, on Tuesday at 12:15 pm

Solo@Home (Berkeley Lab)

Do you or does someone you know live alone during this time of Shelter in Place? Interested in sharing ways to thrive while being solo at home? Join the IDEA Office for 30 minutes of facilitated discussion on Zoom. We will focus on what’s working to alleviate challenges, foster resilience and enhance well-being. Take a break with us and let’s share what works!

Ongoing: 2nd & 4th Thursday of the month at 2 pm.

parenting & caregiver Groups

The Berkeley Lab Parents Network hosts monthly brown bags for members to share tips, resources, activity ideas, and other helpful tools. Given the current challenges with shelter in place, please join us for this chance to build community and get support.

Ongoing: Third Friday of the month from 12:30 - 1:00 pm

Parenting Support Group (Be Well at Work)

Working from home, working without adequate or any childcare, distance learning, home schooling, college students at home, and being with your children 24/7 are only a few of the challenges parents face during COVID 19. Join UC Berkeley's Be Well at Work‘s parenting support group, Supporting Parents and Caregivers of Children. The group meetings will be topic based to provide a focus. The format will consist of a brief introduction to the topic by Leslie Bell, PhD, LCSW, BWAW Employee Assistance Counselor, and Karen Patchell, MA, BWAW Program Manager, followed by discussion and Q & A.

The group will meet virtually on the second and fourth Wednesday of the month.

Caregiver Support Group (Be Well at Work)

Join UC Berkeley's Be Well at Work Elder Care Program for Caregivers Connect. The group will meet virtually on the first Tuesday of the month, and the third Friday of the month from 11 am -12 pm.

These small group meetings will focus on a different topic each month. The format will consist of a brief introduction by Maureen Kelly, LCSW, BWAW Elder Care Counselor, with discussion and Q & A to follow. You are welcome to drop-in for any subject of interest.

Berekley Lab ERGs & associations

Employee Resource Groups (ERG) are groups of employees who join together based on shared characteristics or life experiences to provide fellowship, friendship and support, enhance career and personal development and contribute to the organization’s vision and values. There are 9 ERGs at LBL and they regularly plan events and gatherings for all staff. Check out the calendar on the website for upcoming activities.

Employee Activity Associations (EAA) are employee 'clubs' established to promote and support Laboratory-wide recreational, cultural, educational, and social activities at the Laboratory for the benefit of all employees.
