5-Day Nature Based Mindfulness Practice
April 22 - 26, 2024
Please join the Healthy & Well at LBNL team for a 5-day nature based mindfulness practice in honor of Earth Day.
Earth Day coincides with spring in the Bay Area when the hills are green, the songbirds have arrived, and the flowers are blooming. It’s the perfect time to practice mindfulness of the natural world.
Not only does noticing and enjoying nature - whether it’s the bird outside your window, a houseplant or a walk in the redwoods - improve your sense of well-being, it can help you recharge and can generate a sense of calm, hope, and connectedness.
For this practice you don’t have to budget extra time outdoors - just notice the nature that’s already in your life (house plants, trees along the street etc.), pay attention to how it makes you feel and then everyday for a week share three observations in the practice Google Space.
The simple practice of paying attention to nature and then translating your thoughts into concrete language by writing them down makes you more aware of them and deepens their emotional impact. The more we pay attention, the more we notice and that can shift the emotional tone of our daily lives.
When: Monday April 22 - Friday, April 26
Where: A Google Space set up just for this practice
How: After you sign up, you’ll be added to a Google Space and starting on Monday April 22 you can add three things you’ve noticed for each day for five days. Writing down what you’ve observed is an important part of the practice - it solidifies the experience and emotions of each thing on your list.
